Worn clutch and gearbox from town driving
A life of town driving wears the clutch, and notchy gear changes can mean an abused gearbox.
At the viewing: Accelerate in a high gear to check the clutch doesn't slip, and try every gear.
If it needs doing: Clutch replacement, about £250–£600. ClickMechanic
- Cars registered 2009–2016 · 1.3 diesel
Blocked DPF (1.3 diesel)
Short trips can stop the diesel's particulate filter cleaning itself. A rising oil level can mean fuel getting into the oil.
At the viewing: Ask how the car's been used and check the oil isn't above the top mark.
If it needs doing: DPF clean or regeneration, about £160–£500. ClickMechanic
- Cars registered 2017–2019 · Built 2017 to 2019
Battery monitoring wiring recall (built Sept 2017 to May 2019)
Some cars built 8 September 2017 to 15 May 2019 have battery monitoring wiring that can chafe and needs checking. Otherwise few mechanical problems are reported.
At the viewing: Ask a Ford dealer whether the recall applies and was done.

Poor accident repairs and rust
