Known faults on the 2007 Ford Transit

Reported by owners, mechanics and buying guides for this model and age. Check which engine the car has, as some apply to one engine only.

  • Steering wheel, driveshaft and brake recalls

    All engines

Recalls covered steering wheels that could come off (8,587 vans), driveshafts that could detach (53,766), a rear brake pipe bracket bolt (127,882), power steering leaks onto the exhaust, front lower arm bolts and seatbelt fixings.

At the viewing: Ask a Ford dealer to check the VIN for outstanding recalls.

  • Oil pump failure

  • Faulty ignition switch

At the viewing: Turn the key several times and watch for odd behaviour.

  • Spluttering and fuel rail sensor

    Diesel

Coughing with an engine light can be a fuel leak or a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor, which needs a new fuel rail.

At the viewing: Look and sniff for diesel leaks, and check for warning lights.

Questions to ask the seller before buying a 2007 Ford Transit

Ask before you travel to see it. A seller who knows the car will have answers, and receipts.

  1. Have all the recalls been done? Can a Ford dealer confirm from the VIN?
  2. Has it ever shown an oil pressure warning?
  3. Can I see the service history and receipts for any big jobs?

What to check on a 2007 car

  • MOT history

Check the reg below: its MOT history shows what has been failed or advised, and whether the mileage adds up.

  • Service history

Look for regular servicing and receipts for big jobs like a cambelt or clutch.

  • Finance and write-offs

MOT records don’t show outstanding finance or insurance write-offs. A history check does.

  • Test drive

Listen for knocks over bumps, check every warning light goes out, and make sure the gears and brakes feel right.
